Youth Exchange
The aim of our project was to create an international non-formal context between 23-31 August in Bagaciu, Romania in which young people from Romania, Lithuania, Hungary and Spain, shared opinions, thoughts, and experiences, got to know each other, and collaborated to explore their cultures through the means of stories and storytelling. In this way participants acquired increased awareness on how stories shape reality at personal and societal levels
Our activity was organised within the context of the Youth Accreditation for 2021 and was designed to contribute to objectives 2 and 4 of our accreditation application.
O1. Created a non-formal learning context in which 40 young participants from Romania, Lithuania, Hungary and Spain are invited to discover their cultures through storytelling in a joyful way, by the end of the mobility;
O2. Enhanced the creativity of the 40 young participants through storytelling, by the end of the mobility;
O3. Facilitated a safe environment that fosters peer learning and boosts communication in English among 40 young participants from Romania, Lithuania, Hungary and Spain, by the end of the mobility.
The first two days of the mobility focused on creating a proper working and collaborative atmosphere among the young participants. We organised sessions for building the group, set the norms for the following days and made the evaluation at the beginning of the project. We dedicated a session to the Youthpass Certificate, an essential asset in the reflection process and to the Erasmus+ programme.
During the following four days, participants dived into the topic of the project step by step. First, we discussed and tried to understand the role of the stories, how to create a story and a proper atmosphere for telling a story. Afterwards, we explored how stories influence the culture or how the culture shapes the stories, discussing myths, legends and folklore tales from each country.
Participants collaborated to gather all the project results and share them in the online environment. They planned the DEOR activities to be organised live in their communities. In this stage, young participants made the final assessment of their learning outcomes, completed the third part of the Youthpass and unfolded the project's final evaluation. In the end, all participants received a Youthpass Certificate, attesting to the competencies acquired.
The participants developed through our project trans-disciplinary competencies. They improved their competences in storytelling, critical thinking, creativity, communication in English, and teamwork, thus, boosting their self-confidence. In addition, the competencies acquired will help them in their personal lives as well, being more capable of adapting to different social contexts and interacting with new people.
Immersing the young people into an intercultural environment reuniting four countries, participants got to know other cultures and became more culturally aware and understanding. Through the sessions planned, the young people developed their cultural awareness, learned how to interact in a non-formal context with other youths from a different country, and found out how they can benefit in the future from the opportunities that emerge after this YE. The Youthpass certificate reflects their learning process.
