Youth Exchange
It is not too pretentious to affirm that communication is the very essence of life. Every communication involves at least one sender, a message and a recipient. This may sound simple, but communication is actually a complex subject. A large number of elements can affect the transmission of the message from sender to recipient. These may include emotions, cultural background, communication medium, etc. Accuracy, effectiveness and unambiguousness are important communication skills.
Learning to communicate effectively from a young age renders higher chances for one to develop satisfactory relationships and teamwork abilities, so much needed in personal and professional life.
The aim of our project was to create an international non-formal context between 07th-15th August 2022 in Bagaciu, Romania, in which 40 young people from Romania, Hungary, Latvia and Greece shared opinions, thoughts, and experiences in order to increase their communication competences, become more aware of how to sustain meaningful conversations and navigate the challenges that arise in the process in order to build efficient teams.
O1. Created a safe learning context in which 40 young people from Romania, Hungary, Latvia and Greece exchange ideas, values and perspectives on the important role communication processes have in their professional and personal lives;
O2. Empower 40 young people from Romania, Hungary, Latvia and Greece to develop communication competences and teamwork abilities.
Our activity was organised within the context of the Youth Accreditation for 2021 and was designed to contribute to objectives 2 and 4 of our accreditation application.
The first two days of the mobility focused on creating a proper working and collaborative atmosphere among the young participants. We organised sessions for building the group, set the norms for the following days and made the evaluation at the beginning of the project. We dedicated a session to the Youthpass Certificate, an essential asset in the reflection process and to the Erasmus+ programme.
Participants discussed and tried to understand the role of the communication process in connection to teams and its importance as a means to boost teams’ efficiency, as well as challenges that may arise in communication. Day 4 was dedicated to a study visit to Sighisoara, where participants divided into groups engaged in a scavenger hunt activity. The attention focused on solving challenges in conversations and on team dynamics.
Participants collaborated to gather all the project results and share them in the online environment. They planned the DEOR activities to be organised live in their communities. In this stage, young participants made the final assessment of their learning outcomes, completed the third part of the Youthpass and unfolded the project's final evaluation. In the end, all participants received a Youthpass Certificate, attesting to the competencies acquired.
The 40 young participants developed through our project trans-disciplinary competences. They improved communication competences, becoming more aware of how to sustain meaningful conversations and navigate the challenges that arise in the process in order to build efficient teams. In addition, the competences acquired will help them in their personal lives as well, being more capable to adapt to different social contexts and interact with new people.
Immersing the young people into an intercultural environment reuniting 4 countries participants got to know other cultures and became more culturally aware and understanding. Through the sessions planned, the young people developed their cultural awareness; learned how to interact in a non-formal context with other youths from a different country; found out how they can benefit in the future from the opportunities that emerged after this YE. The Youthpass certificate reflects their learning process.
