The “Green Participation in Erasmus+” youth exchange emerges in a turbulent political and economic context. Post COVID Pandemic, Eastern Europe was hit by a severe conflict, on 22 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. The effects of this conflagration were felt globally but were most poignant in the near vicinity of Ukraine. States such as Republic of Moldavia and Romania, at the immediate vicinity of the front can only unite their efforts for peace and hope for the best. Contrary to the historic links and to the common the two countries share; Romania and Republic of Moldavia; are two countries which are highly different one from another. Romania on one side, a pro member of the EU and a Republic of Moldavia, a country that struggles now to come as close as possible to the EU, a recent candidate country. Nonetheless, both countries share a common natural border for 711 km made by the Prut River. Besides the river that borders the two countries it is a very high tendency of young people from Republic of Moldavia to come for studies in Romania. All these links and the sharing of the same challenges, geographical location and natural environment made the young initiators of “Green Participation in Erasmus+” to create a project that will unite the two countries on a theme of interest for both: the protection of the environment and the environmental education for youth.
Our project aims to contribute to the following European Youth Goals: 9#Space and Participation for All and #10 Sustainable Green Europe: by empowering its participants to become environmentally active, educated and able to make a difference in their everyday lives. The young participants will discover opportunities for participation in their societies and will familiarize with the pillars of a Sustainable Green Europe by making full use of nonformal participative learning methods such as: learning by doing, peer learning, debate, environmental art exhibition, drumming, and plenty more.
Aim
The aim of this Youth Exchange is to raise awareness about opportunities of participation of youth in the protection of the environment and to bridge youth from two different countries. We will empower all the participants to actively engage in intercultural dialogue, cultivate a deeper curiosity for the other cultures, and broaden their understanding of aspects that may not be immediately apparent within a culture. By achieving these aim the program seeks to contribute to the development of a more inclusive and harmonious European society, where young people can unite their powers for a common good: the protection of the environment.
The youth exchange will reunite 44 young participants from Romania and the Republic of Moldavia in Izvoare, Harghita (Romania), between 09-19/09/2023.
Specific objectives and Link to Accreditation Objectives
O1. Raise the awareness of our participants with regards to their opportunities to participate in their societies for assuring a Sustainable Green Europe.
O2. Contribute to the development of the key competences of our participants and empower them to become aware of their learning paths.
O3. Enhancing cultural understanding and appreciation and empower the young participants to become aware about the common, trans-border problems that both countries confront with and of the impact their action can have on the European society.
Our mobility is correlated with our accreditation Objective #1, by improving a set of key competences (personal and learning to learn competence, cultural understanding and expression competence) among the young participants, all coming from small urban areas, as well as those facing fewer opportunities such as educational difficulties, economic, geographic, social, cultural differences, and health issues.
