Youth Exchange
17/08/2025 - 25/08/2025
Mezőberény, Hungary
In recent years, young people—especially those living in cities—have become increasingly disconnected from physical activity and the natural world. Long hours spent indoors and online are gradually replacing time spent outdoors, affecting both physical health and mental balance.
The Green Outdoor Adventure youth exchange was designed as a response to this growing issue. Over the course of one week, 36 young people aged 18–25 from France, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia came together in Mezőberény, surrounded by forests, lakes, and green areas that served as an ideal environment for learning and connection. The group was guided by experienced leaders and facilitators, who supported participants throughout the experience.
As the official Romanian partner, Ingens Risus proudly contributed a group of 9 participants and one group leader to this international initiative.
Encouraging active, healthy living by helping young people rediscover the joy of being outdoors through gentle hikes, team sports, and hands-on workshops.
Strengthening intercultural understanding by creating a space where youth from four countries could explore each other’s traditions, perspectives, and daily realities.
Promoting mental well-being, highlighting how time in nature can reduce stress, build resilience, and enhance social confidence.
Supporting inclusion and equal opportunities, ensuring that young people with fewer opportunities were fully involved and supported during all activities.
Expanding the project’s impact, motivating participants to share what they learned within their local communities and beyond.
The exchange kicked off with dynamic icebreakers and team-building activities that helped participants get to know each other and create a shared “social contract” based on mutual respect and cooperation.
In the following days, the focus shifted toward trust and collaborative work. Through parachute games, trust-building exercises, and a town-wide scavenger hunt, young people practiced relying on one another and working effectively across cultural boundaries. They also learned about Erasmus+ opportunities and the Youthpass certificate, discovering how mobility programs can support their personal and professional development.
Mid-week, the group immersed themselves in nature-centered activities. A guided hike allowed participants to explore local biodiversity, while a community clean-up helped them contribute directly to the environment around them. Workshops on sustainability, upcycling, and eco-friendly habits provided practical inspiration for greener living. Participants also collaborated on artistic creations made from recycled materials and later developed vision boards using natural elements, blending creativity with environmental awareness.
Sports and outdoor games were an essential part of the experience as well. Volleyball, pétanque, soccer, and the Hungarian traditional game Méta brought plenty of energy and fun. Activities such as blindfold walks encouraged trust and sharpened environmental awareness. These moments allowed participants to push their limits, develop strategic thinking, and strengthen group unity.
The final day was dedicated to reflection and celebration. Participants prepared their Youthpass certificates, walked through the week’s memories during a “Memory Lane” activity, and presented their dissemination plans for continuing the project’s impact back home. The exchange concluded with a warm closing event filled with gratitude, shared memories, and newly formed friendships.
By the end of the project, the young people involved—our Romanian group included—left with improved teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, as well as a renewed motivation to embrace healthier and more active lifestyles. They returned home inspired, empowered, and ready to pass on what they learned within their communities.
